even more snow!

I think it has finally stopped snowing. Looks like we got about 8 inches. I couldn't measure the same way I have been because under the snow on the table is now a couple of inches of ice so I couldn't put the ruler in the middle, only on the edge or the table.
The layer of ice under the snow means that our gate was frozen shut. But we broke it free and can open one side of the gate. In any case we parked the CRV at the end of the driveway so that if we do have to leave, we don't have to shovel anything.
Miran, Azra and I played in the snow a bit. There was a big snowball fight that didn't get documented because we were all involved. But we made a couple snowmen. First Azra ...
Then I made him a friend with a little help from Miran, who also made another mini-snowman in between, which you can see if you look very closely.
But making snowmen with a dog around is complicated. Kico stole the carrot noses off the snowmen more than once, and here I caught him trying to steal the hat off Azra's.
And he kept eating the head of Miran's mini-snowman. I guess he thought it was a ball because Miran kept holding it in his hand trying to put on eyes and a mouth and Kico kept grabbing it. Then when Miran stepped away Kico ate it right of the snowman himself!
Finally, I made a snow angel ...
Which was also complicated by Kico who kept trying to lick my face and then immediately stepped in it and ruined it as soon as I got up.
But we are all enjoying our three days off. It feels like a holiday and we are all having a little trouble working. This last picture is just the view out our front door. Its a winter wonderland!

And more snow!

Its day two of snowmeggedon and we are up to 5.5 inches. According to the forecast it isn't supposed to stop until 6:00 pm tomorrow so we are likely to get even more!

Snow 2 !

We got a lot of snow today. It started snowing around 10:30 am and is still coming down. We've got over 2 inches so far. And it is supposed to snow off and on for the next few days. UNCC didn't close today so Azra had classes, but Miran and I both worked from home and I have to say didn't work too hard. Miran made a very little snowman.

I'm still not sure if I'll have class tomorrow but I'm suspecting it will be cancelled or late because everything will probably freeze overnight.

I have no idea how I made these little snowflakes fall in this first picture of the house, but it is some feature of google images. But it works!

Privacy film - the final project !

I spent the snow day cutting and sticking the opaque plastic on the french doors to Milada's room so she'll have a little privacy. It looks pretty good in these pictures but in reality it is really terrible. There are tons of bubbles and jagged edges and holes where light comes through. I guess I'll have to come up with another solution, but this will have to do for now.

Milada arrives at 3:40 tomorrow. Or rather that is when her plane lands. We'll probably see her around 5:00 on the other side of customs and immigration. Maybe even later. She leaves Sarajevo at 5:30 in the morning, which is 11:30 here. She'll be getting up soon to get ready!

And Aunt Maggie, unlike the birds Kico didn't have to be quarantined when he arrived. Dogs are exempt from that rule as long as they have had their rabies shots more than 30 days previously. He just came right through in his big cage like a suitcase. He has adjusted and we think now knows this is his home. He barked at the Fedex guy and the garbage truck today. The first week or two he didn't care about anyone - the guys building the fence were all over the yard and he walked right past them. He was also not quite eating normally at first but seems to have his full appetite now. And he is very well behaved - today I accidentally didn't close the gate at the bottom of the stairs and he didn't even come up. He just laid there looking at it! He's going to be really happy and feel really at home tomorrow when Milada arrives!

And everyone, FYI, his name is pronounced like Ki-cho. The c is a ch sound just like the s in Makas is a sh. The c also has a diacritical mark!

Snow!

We finally got a little snow to go with the crazy cold we've  had this year. It didn't really start snowing until around 4:00 and was coming down pretty slow, so to participate we had to go out for a walk after dinner.

We got less than an inch but it covered everything and it isn't supposed to get above freezing today so it is pretty slick now. Azra doesn't have classes today and Miran decided to work from home. UNCC decided to open at noon, so my 11:00 class is cancelled, but an important 12:30 faculty meeting is still on and I'll be going in. Good thing I have 4 wheel drive in the CRV. I'll test it today!
