First Day of School

Today was Azra's first day of school, so I took a picture like Mommy used to do every year when we were kids. I made Miran pose with her because he looked so nice. He was on his way to a job interview. Everyone cross their fingers for us! They were annoyed and thought it was cheesy, but they humored me.

This is the first of FIVE new posts I've made today. I am making up for lost time in the past few weeks! I tried to minimize the text and focus on the pictures! I hope you make it through all five! Enjoy!

Week-End Projects

Mom and Dad were here for the week-end and we got some home projects done.

Dad built some basic shelves in the downstairs hall closet which I am very excited about. They may not look exciting, but try to imagine everything on them in a big pile before the shelves were installed. I didn't think to take a before picture, but you can imagine the jumble.

Meanwhile, Mommy and I painted the dining room, entry way and upstairs hall as well as the corner of the living room I hadn't finished earlier. The color is the same beige (Eurolinen , its called) as the family room and kitchen. You kind have to look closely in the pictures to see that the walls and trim are now a different color, but I swear it looks really warmer in person now that everything isn't white anymore.

I also go inspired and hung the city prints in the dining room as well as some other pictures in the entry hall and my diplomas in the new office. These are the first things that have gone on the walls in the nearly one year we have lived here! Miran said it feels more homey now. The gaps in the city print collage are for images of Rome and Florence that I need to get framed.

We didn't just work this time. We managed to squeeze in a mother's day trip to the ballet Friday night and a family outing to the new modern art museum in town as well.

Office Move

We decided to move our home office from the upstairs bedroom into what is supposed to be the formal living room. We haven't used that room since we moved in, except to store stuff and we don't plan to buy new living room furniture anytime soon. So we decided we'd put the nicest physical room in the house - its spacious with lots of light and beautiful floors - to use as the room we spend the most time in - our office. The project involved me painting bookcases and cabinets (black, of course), moving furniture from one room to the other.

Richmond Trip

Two weeks ago we took a week-end trip to Richmond, Virginia for my cousin Patrick's wedding. He and Haley did a really nice job throwing a party and their group of friends seemed really close and nice. Everyone had fun dancing. We enjoyed the week-end in the bed and breakfast catching up with family and playing with Maggie and Ingrid. We also toured a really lovely botanical garden before leaving town Sunday and took some nice shots of ourselves!

Garden Update

I may not have been blogging, but things have been happening around here in the past few weeks. Here are some pictures updating everyone on Azra and Miran's progress on the garden. They planted a ton of stuff from seed in cute little cups and once they all sprouted, they planted it in the raised bed. Some stuff is still in the little cups and hasn't been planted yet. Also, the pavers have gone in to mark out the access path and the upright posts for the fence are all in. So more planting and the actual fence are left to install. The bottom picture shows how fast things are growing.
