Ice Cream !

For his birthday, mom and dad sent Miran the ice cream maker attachment for our kitchenaid mixer. So far I've made three batches of ice cream and I'm 1 for 3. The first attempt was supposed to be lemon, but we could only taste the vanilla, and it had a weird texture because I used stevia. The second batch (pictured) was a second try at lemon with a whole lot more lemon juice and lemon zest and real sugar. It was perfect.

The mint chocolate chip never churned into ice cream and we still don't know why. And here is Miran taking a picture of himself and of me while I make ice cream ... which he has very much enjoyed eating.

  1. PS - I just tried the Mint Chocolate Chip again with more cream and more time in the fridge before churning and it worked great. So my success rate is improving.

  2. PPS - I've got all the stuff to make Cookies and Cream ice cream for Azra when she gets back next week (her favorite). I think I'll do a test run this week as it seems I get each flavor right on the second try!

  3. We love our ice cream maker too! I've tried cookies and cream before and it tasted great but turned a really un-appetizing color as the cookies mashed up! I think you can wait and add the cookies when it is almost done to avoid this problem. What a great time of year to be doing all of this experimenting!

  4. My cookies and cream worked on the first batch. I definitely over smashed the oreos though, there are no chunks, just black specs in the vanilla. The mint chocolate chip on the other had was a terrible color of poo green. I added a lot of food coloring to help it become appetizing (and ruined its organic status with a little chemical dye!)
