First Piece of New Furniture

As per an agreement Miran and I made probably about two years ago, the first piece of furniture we bought for the new house was a new mattress. Miran has a lot of backaches and felt our old mattress was part of the problem, so this was a priority. We set our former bed up in the guest room, so our new mattress is on the floor of our bedroom. Buying a new bed is not a furniture priority. But last week end Dad generously offered to build us a new bed (or actually maybe it was Mom who volunteered him!). He of course is the craftsman of our former, now guest, bed as well.
As you can see both bedroms rooms still need to be painted. But first we have to choose colors. We've got four paint samples up over the bed as possibilities for our room.

Workshop

We have so many projects in mind for the house, but before we can do many of them, we needed to get the workshop set up so our tools are organized and we have someplace to work. As I posted before, Miran already built a table for the workshop, but it doesn't have any windows and had a dark paneled interior, so he decided to paint it white to lighten it up a bit. He borrowed a paint sprayer from a friend which worked great in this enclosed space where we didn't care if paint got on the ceiling and floor and shelves as well as the wall. And the paint really got everywhere - even all over Miran. I said I was getting a preview of what he would look like as an old man with white hair. Even his eyelashes were white. (I tried to get him to wear goggles, but they got covered in paint so fast he couldn't see anything).

And here are two views afterwards with the shevles put back in and the worktable in place.

Bird Room Finished

Here are two images of the bird room actually with birds in it! They are enjoying some free time on top of their cage and hanging out on the cool spiral perch Miran hung from the ceiling. We have another of these we need to hang because they really like this one!

The Bird Room

Another project we actually started even before the family room and before we moved in was preparing a room for the birds. We are going to put them in the bedroom off the family room. Someday we'll build them a sunroom, but this is a pretty nice set up for now.

The before picture is again with the former owner's stuff in it. We didn't take one of it empty.

The first picture below shows Miran removing the carpet, then we have a view after I scaped up the asbestos tile (without knowing it was toxic), then Miran smoothing out the problems in the concrete.
He then primed the floor, then we painted the walls a cheerful green and laid some peel stick linoleum tiles, and finally the room was ready for the birds!

Painting the Family Room

One of our first projects was updating and lightening up the family room. It had really dark panelling on three walls and the forth is all brick. Here is a before photo (with the former owner's stuff) and a picture of the room all primed and ready to paint.

We painted the paneling a very pale color. Its called Euro Linen! Sounds fancy. Here is a picture of the room all primed and ready to paint.
Its also the first room we really set up with furniture. Somehow, even though we are no longer renting, we ended up with a very beige room again - beige carpet, beige walls, and beige furniture! Maybe we'll have to get slip covers for the sofas to get a little contrast or color into the room. We still prefer it significantly to the dark paneling from before.
I would also eventually like to paint the fireplace wall white, and get a more modern mantel and ceiling fan as well. Oh and to hang something on the walls, of course.
